Precision Manufacturing

Rethinking how a B2B manufacturer presents capability and routes technical enquiries.

This is a self-initiated concept. The business is hypothetical and it is not client work — the thinking, design and build approach are real.

01Current state

A capable business, hidden behind a brochure.

Manufacturers often have serious capability — certifications, machinery, tolerances — presented as a static brochure with a generic contact form.

02Business context

Buyers are engineers and procurement teams.

They need specifications, capacity and proof of process quickly. They send detailed enquiries — which then sit in a shared inbox.

  • Technical buyers
  • Long sales cycles
  • Enquiries vary widely in value

03Constraint

Good enquiries and poor enquiries look the same.

Every enquiry arrives as an unstructured email. Sales can't tell which needs a same-day response.

04Strategic decision

Make capability browsable. Make enquiries structured.

Capabilities become a navigable system. The enquiry form asks the questions sales would ask on the first call, then routes the result.

05Design system

Engineered, not decorated.

A grid drawn from technical drawings, monospaced data and an industrial orange used only for action.

  • Specification tables as design elements
  • Dimension-line motifs
  • High information density, clear hierarchy

Sans for structure, serif for reassurance.

06Experience

From capability to qualified enquiry.

A buyer can filter by process, material and tolerance, then send an enquiry pre-filled with what they were looking at.

07Development

Content model first.

Capabilities, materials and industries are modelled as data so the site can grow without redesign. Enquiries post directly to the CRM.

08Final state

Sales starts the conversation informed.

The intended outcome: enquiries arrive qualified, assigned and ready for follow-up, with a simple view of the pipeline.
